Label Text:
Rouault notes simply yet confidently: a disciple has found his own truth, his faith, his Master. He illustrates this revelation in an unpretentious encounter between two naked figures with a modest nod, a kind gesture of recognition. This eloquent exchange is rendered by the expressive use of sugar-lift etching and aquatint over the flat printed brushstrokes transferred by photogravure. Rouault further enhances Christ’s towering presence on the right by accentuating his mortal physique in burnished white tones.
