Description: vertical ōban triptych
Label Text: This print is signed "Toshihide" at lower-left of the left panel with the artist's seal in red. Immediately to the left is the publisher's seal of Akiyama Buemon, which also dates the print to 1907 (Meiji 37). The series title can be found printed vertically within the cartouche at upper-right of the right panel. As there is no strict title given for this individual print, the narrative inscription, printed in the light-blue cartouche, has been used. It has been transliterated and (roughly) translated in its entirety below:
"On March 10 at Port Arthur, as destroyers from both sides engaged in close combat, a sailor of first rank from our 'Ren' destroyer [ed: a classification of warship] leapt aboard the enemy's ship and took aim at her captain. He shouted in a thunderous voice as he raised his brandished his sword directly above his helmet and swinging it down, he kicked the captain into the sea."
"Sangatsu tōka ryojunkō higa chikukan sessen waga renkan no ittō suihei tekikan no odorihairi kanchō megakete daikatsuissei taiken furikazushite makan yori zansage ashi o tobashite kaichū ni keotosushitari."
