Description:
This tiny, colorful lidded basket is made out of dyed raffia that was woven to create striking scenes and bands of color around the basket's base. The lid contains a spiral pattern and additional bands of color. Around the base, two Makah style canoes are shown, each with six people sitting in them. The dyes are likely commercial, because they are so strongly colored and have not faded with time. (Dyes from native fibers would result in less deep color, and would eventually lose their vibrancy.)
