Label Text:
Hitchcock’s hand-colored lithograph captures the charm of the scenery nicely in her view taken from the east. She made nine views of the Connecticut River Valley for Report on the Geology, Mineralogy, and Zoology of Massachusetts, written by her husband, Edward Hitchcock, a geology professor and the third president of Amherst College (1845–1854). The prints appeared in two editions, 1833 and 1841.
