Description:
This lekythos, a type of vessel used for storing oil, has a trefoil lip that is black glazed; its ribbed handle rises above the spout and attaches at the top of the shoulder. A ray pattern in added white decorates the long narrow neck, and a black glaze wave pattern appears on the top of the shoulder. On the body of the vase is a female head in profile to the left. She wears a striped and dotted kekryphalos and stephane which are detailed with added white and yellow, and red. Added white dots at her neck indicate a necklace. Added white and yellow are used by the painter for filling ornaments to the left of the head. On the reverse is a large palmette and, between the palmette and the head, curving scroll patterns. A thick black band between two thin lines completes the lower part of the body decoration. The stem is washed in red and has one black glaze line. The edge of the foot is also glazed black, and the underside is reserved.
