Description:
ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 420-410 BCE. This relief, sculpted shortly after the construction of the Parthenon, demonstrates the pervasive influence of that structure in the stances of its subjects. On the far right, Orpheus, identified by the lyre held in his right hand, leads Eurydice, in the center, back from the underworld. Hermes, playing his role as the patron of travel as evidenced by the hat hanging on his back, looks on from the far left.Three standing figures: central figure is a women, two flanking figures are male.:
