Label Text:
Label text for ARH 240 French and Italian Drawings Renaissance through Romanticism, written by Carol Kaminsky:

GĂ©ricault probably made this crowded study sheet during his years in Florence and Rome. There he fell under the influence of Michelangelo and the Antique, as reflected in the images that proliferate in all directions. Classical head studies juxtapose with profiles of Roman street types and horse heads drawn from nature. He hoped to capture everyday life in Rome in the manner of the Renaissance masters.
