Label Text:
This print is signed at lower-right within a red toshidama cartouche "Toyokuni ga" ('drawn by Toyokuni'). Below the signature is the seal of publisher Tsutaya Kichizō of the firm Kōeidō; this design — maple leaves beneath a three-peaked mountain, accented with a small dot — was employed from ca. 1820–1861. Above the toshidama cartouche are two circular nanushi seals, which read "Hama" and "Magome," representing the censors Hama Yahei and Magome Kangeyū. To the left of the artist's signature is a date seal, identifying the inspection date as the ninth lunar month of 1852 (Kaei 5).
