Description: Two nude figures are depicted in black and white with heavy, thick lines. The left figure (the Apostle Thomas) is bending down to place his hand into the resurrected Christ's spear wound from the Crucifixion. Christ has a halo
Label Text: Rouault notes simply yet confidently: a disciple has found his own truth, his faith, his Master. He illustrates this revelation in an unpretentious encounter between two naked figures with a modest nod, a kind gesture of recognition. This eloquent exchange is rendered by the expressive use of sugar-lift etching and aquatint over the flat printed brushstrokes transferred by photogravure. Rouault further enhances Christ’s towering presence on the right by accentuating his mortal physique in burnished white tones.
