Label Text:
As ARTIFACTS was being readied for print in 1981, another track off Laurie Anderson's "United States (Live)," O Superman, became a sleeper hit, rising to #2 in the UK's singles charts. Anderson was known in New York during the '70s for her multimedia performance art focusing on language, technology, and imagery; but 1981 was the year she became known worldwide as an avant-garde polymath genius. She was awarded a 1982 Guggenheim Fellowship, and most recently a 2019 Grammy for "Landfall" with the Kronos Quartet.
