Description:
Drop-leaf work table with two drawers fitted with wooden drawer pulls and supported on four turned legs. The table documents the craftsmanship of the cabinetmaker Timothy B. Rice of Leverett, Massachusetts, born in April 1801, the son of Dr. Josiah and Sallay Bellows Rice of Leverett. Timothy married Betsy Watson in 1824 and was still living in 1858. The bottom drawer was inscribed in pencil and then superscribed later for clarity: "Made by Timothy Rice Esq. of Leverett in the year 1840 and sold to Silas Morgan of Leverett for 4 dollars and afterwards sold for 2.50 to Louisa Kimball of Leverett. Now Mrs. James Comery of No. Hadley, Nov. 1877." "Sold by C.L. Comins to G. V. Glatfelter of Amherst for $10.00 in 1925. Bought back later in 1925 for $16.00 by Clifton and Olive (Comins) Hubbard."
