Description:
One of two silver salt spoons with a pointed oval bowl, rounded shoulders, and fiddle-end handle, which is marked "G.C. MUNSELL" in a rectangle for Guy C. Munsell (1809-1884), and engraved with the initials "RJW" on the front of the handle. The daughter of Edward Jackson of Newtown, Rebecca Jackson (1799-1883) married Ephraim Williams (1797-1870) of Deerfield in 1822. Rebecca and Ehraim had a daughter, Rebecca Jackson Williams (1832-1904) who became the third wife of Alfred Russell Field (1815-1870) in 1859. Munsell worked as a jeweler in Greenfield from c.1835-1850. In 1836, he married Amanda Day (b.1812) and they lived on a local farm. They moved to Amherst, Massachusetts, after 1850, and Guy Munsell was listed on subsequent census records as a farmer in Amherst.
