Montréal, second largest town of French Canada was the ultimate goal of both Amherst’s and Prideaux’s armies, although weather and enemy resistance could delay their advance. Montréal was very weakly fortified, so its successful defense meant keeping the enemy at a distance. Early plan of Montreal from London Magazine. The map in the upper right hand corner shows a "View of the Town & c. of Montreal" and the remaining three quarters is a map plan showing the fortified city with the St. Lawrence River, the arsenal for canoes and battoes, the wharf, garden of the seminary, parish church, powder magazine, Jesuits Church and Convent. Outside of the walled city is the garden of Monsr. Limeres, the Brothers of Charity or General Hospital, and the House of Monsr. Calliere. This map appeared in the October 1760, vol. 29, edition of the London Magazine.
