Description:
Oval wooden box with "AW" scratched on the lid, used to hold seals and wax. There are two wood and metal seals with the initials "A" and "W" respectively; and a small glass seal engraved with an early locomotive and the words: "ANSWER WITH SPEED". There are also several pieces of red sealing wax. The box was sold at Amherst Auction Galleries, June 12, 1976, as part of the estate of Mary W. (Mollie) Wells of Deerfield, the great grand daughter of Augustus Wells (1798-1861)), the eldest surviving son of Samuel Wells and Esther Arms Wells of Deerfield, who probably owned the box, and Miranda Wells.
