Description:
One of two silver spoons with a small pointed oval bowl, rounded shoulders, and double-swell fiddle handle, which is marked "S. Harrington" in a rectangle for Samuel Harrington (c.1820-after 1850), and engraved with the initials "LCD" in script on the front of the handle. Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, Harrington was in partnership with Edward Prevear (c.1818-1899) in Amherst from 1841-1842, and married Prevear's sister, Caroline Prevear (1820-1905), in 1843. Harrington was listed in the 1850 US Census as a watchmaker in Amherst.
