Description:
Gold or silver chain necklace featuring a pendant with a peacock design. Clear stones made up the body of the bird; its wings are decorated with red and green stones set in gold filagree, pearl and gold drops. Stylistically, the necklace could have been made in late 19th or early 20th-century India or France, the latter as part of French Arts and Crafts production. The clear stones seen in the peacock are foiled, and rose cut, a flatter cut that suggests an Indian origin to the piece. They are set into either white gold, platinum, or silver. The rubies, which have a large amount of inclusion, are set in gold. Emeralds and pearls are also used on the piece. There are two assay marks, an eagel's head (French or in the style of India). The clasp is hand made and without marks, features seen on Arts and Crafts-style jewelry clasps.
