Description:
Pair of men' shoes, square-toed with small base metal buckles, black leather uppers with extended quarters and reinforced waists, and linen linings. The label on proper right shoe reads "ELIJA TRESCOTT Jr. BOOTS & SHOES 171 WASHINGTON ST. BOSTON" and "8" is written inside both shoes. Elijah Trescott, Jr. (1812-1875) was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. He was listed as a merchant at the time of the 1855 State Census, as well as at the time of his death in 1875. Boston's Washington Street was a growing commercial, retail, and manufacturing center for the city in the mid-late 19th century.
