Description: Molded lead-glazed, white earthenware (pearlware), pierced basket printed in the "Boston State House" pattern by John Rogers and Son (active ca. 1815-1842). The basket is transfer printed in medium blue with a view of the Boston State House including a family group and a man with a hand cart in the mid-distance and three cows in the foreground. Framed by a border of trailing flowers and leaves on a dark ground. The print, possibly based on an 1804 sketch by Dobbins, comes in two varieties. Some prints feature two trees in the foreground, including this example, while others only depict one.
