Description:
These small pots held salves for treating wounds or burns on the skin. Gallipot or dispensing pot, London, England, c. 1650-1700. Tin-glazed earthenware (delftware). This thrown pot has a curved rim, slightly wavy sides, and a flat base, the underside of the base has concentric circle striations from removing the pot with a wire as the pot was still turning on the wheel. Small white label on base, "HV1?" Condition: Surface is slightly darkened with staining, there are a couple of hairline cracks through the sides, and chips to the rim.
