Description:
Whole-cloth, printed cotton quilt. While the face fabric is English, the quilting itself may have been done in France. Face fabric made from four widths of a plain-weave, polychrome English roller/cylinder-printed cotton featuring a design of pillars and floral garlands; the quilting itself may suggest French construction of the quilt itself. The printed cotton face fabric, known by the early 19th century as a chintz, may have originally been glazed. Some degradation to the face fabric. Backing is made from four selvage widths of tan/off-white, plain-weave cotton.
