Description: Teacup, Knottingley Pottery (Ralph Wedgwood), (1796-1800), Ferrybridge, Yorkshire, England, c. 1796-1800. The factory was founded in 1792, and in 1796 Ralph Wedgwood, a cousin of Josiah Wedgwood, joined the firm: he retired from the partnership about 1800. The factory was called Knottingley Pottery until 1804, when the name was changed to Ferrybridge Pottery. Lead-glazed pearlware, u-shaped cup with applied footrim, transfer printed in underglaze cobalt blue. Impressed on base: “WEDGWOOD 3" Chinoiserie style, bridge pattern with small huts. Pattern identified as "Long Bridge." Ralph Wedgwood's Ferrybridge pattern book is in the collection of the V&A/Wedgwood Archives in Barlaston; according to Loren Zeller, the pattern book does show this pattern. Collector's paper label on base: “Huxley-Robinson Collection/ 6/86.5” Pat Halfpenny writes that this mark is associated with Ralph Wedgwood's production in Ferrybridge - see "Useful Thomas and Ralph Wedgwood - Beginning a New Appreciation," English Ceramic Circle Trans. 31 (2020), p. 75, fig. 24
