Description:
Flower brick, England, Liverpool, c. 1740 - 1750. Tin-glazed earthenware (delftware) decorated in cobalt blue. Rectangular-shaped flower brick composed of six flat slabs of clay luted together to create a box; the top is pierced with 18 holes, the long side edges are slightly extended on the bottom to elevate it off the ground, the brick is covered in a layer of light watery blue tinted tin glaze and decorated on all sides with blue flowers and leaves in a chinoiserie style, the top's holes are each enhanced with a ring of petals. Condition: there are chips to the edges, and large chips to the top edge of the brick, and larger chips and losses along the base edges.
