Description: Ensemble of a dress with matching coat worn by Helen Geier Flynt (1895-1986) during the early 1960s. Helen, along with her husband Henry N. Flynt (1893-1970), founded the Heritage Foundation, later Historic Deerield, in 1952. The coat features a small collar, three-quarter length or bracelet- length sleeves and is cut straight, ending just below the knee. The sleeveless sheath dress also ends just below the knee, slighlty above the hem of the coat itself. Both items are made from a matching printed tussah silk featuring a white ground and bright pastel flowers. The ensemble was purchased at Frederick’s, a women's specialty store with locations in Montclair and Spring Lake, New Jersey. Helen Flynt purchased many items from the latter location, as it was near the couple's summer home in Bay Head. The shop carried better ready-to-wear garments, made some custom garments, and also imported items from abroad.
