Description: One of a set of nine English delft tiles decorated in blue, each with an 8-sided central reserve with a well-dressed, hatted fisherman seated on a stump and pulling in a fish. The edge is framed by a Louis XV border of flowers, scrolls, and diaper-work corner. The borders are the same for each of the tiles, but the seated men and background scenes vary slightly on each tile. Anthony Ray thought that this scene was taken from an engraving, but that print source has yet to be identified. According to the donor: "Louis XV borders like Ray 206 and fisherman most like Ray 196. Local source. Another set in Lyman Allen Museum, New London, Conn."
