Description: Cup plate, press molded, circular dish with short brim, flat base, transfer printed in underglaze dark blue, pattern known as "Ship, Anchored", pattern depicts a sailing vessel of three masts anchored in a harbor, with border has various shells,impressed "PETER MORTON / HARTFORD" on back. China merchant Peter Morton of 68 Front St., Hartford, CT, had a business relationship with Enoch Wood -- and possibly was an American agent for the Staffordshire firm. Many of his advertisements relate that his products are "received direct from the manufactory." The plate is in excellent condition.
