Description:
Pair of plates decorated with a blue transfer print marked "Genevese" on the base. The scene features a large Swiss chalet on the left bank of the river and a church and tall trees on the right bank of the river. Other makers such as Minton, and Thomas & Benjamin Godwin, made a Genevese pattern reflecting the fact that Geneva, Switzerland was a popular continental destination and topic of interest for the English in the nineteenth century. The longevity and popularity of the Minton's Genevese pattern, first introduced in the mid 1820's, that led other makers to produce a similar Genevese pattern of their own.
