Inside a metal bucket the illusion of water is created by a video playing on an embedded television screen. The video captures the quality of flowing and dripping water without ever spilling. On the ceiling, an upside-down table holds a stemmed glass over the bucket, suggesting itself as the water’s source. Water is a recurring theme in Fabrizio Plessi’s installations, videos, and sculptures. Plessi resides in Venice, a city surrounded by canals, and in his work water is often used to evoke motion and transience. In this installation, Plessi holds us in suspense, creating a scene in which gravity is defied and matter exists in an in-between state.
