Description:
Vibrantly dyed fiber plume used to decorate a ceremonial uniform from the late 19th or early 20th century. The colors of the long fibers (wool or synthetic?) are bright yellow, bright orange, and off white. The top of the plume is ornamented with a brass (or brass colored) filagree cone. The base, which would have been inserted into a hard-brimmed cap top, is a double loop of metal. The plume comes with its original packaging, on which is printed "NO. 1 COTSWOLD PLUME, PATENTED MAY 14, 1889. Manufactured by THE COTSWOLD PLUME MFG. CO., Manufactures of DUSTERS, PLUMES, TASSELS, ROSETTES, ETC., ETC. FLORENCE,-MASS."
