Description:
From Journal des Luxus und der Moden, no. 14. Since their inception in the late 17th century, fashion plates served an important role in communicating changes and novelties in contemporary clothing and accessories for both men and women. Often, a fashion plate from a French publication would be purchased and reproduced (sometimes with little or no alterations to the original French image), in publications within other countries, including this German example from Journal des Luxus und der Moden. The image is marked no. 14, which may indicate some kind of consecutive publication, although somtimes numbers did not correspond sequentially.

Subjects:
Watercolor painting
