Description:
Flax plant illustration from Abbildungen Sämmtlicher Arzneigewachse Deutschlands; the book was published in Leipzig during the years 1832-34 by Dr. Eduard Winkler (1799-1862), a German botanist, scholar and teacher, illustration removed from the book, there is evidence of a plate mark around the edge of the image, the image depicts two different kinds of flax plants - "A. Linum usitatissimum" and "B. Linum catharticum", with all their different plant parts. Also inscribed "Taf. 178", "L. Lein oder Flachs." and "L. Purgir Lein." The image is hand colored in green, blue, yellow, and brown and printed in ink on wove Whatman paper.
