The Kinnear Patent Lard Oil Lamp (1851), designed to give more light than a single candle. The lamp, which resembles a tin can, has a heavy base. The wick is inserted in the burner tube in one end. The filling cap is at the other end. The lamp is missing its shade. Lard oil was a less expensive fuel than camphene or whale oil. Lard oil lamps usually have a wide wick and burners made of copper.
