Description:
Hourglass (perhaps home made?), composed two blown bottle glass tear-shaped containers with sand inside, held in place by a wooden armature composed of five rods or sticks - three of the rods are turned and two are straight sticks, the two top ends of the hourglass are round, flat disks of wood, the two pieces of glass are joined in the center by sewing thread and then a puffy layer of putty covered by either paper or leather. Modern white label on the bottom of base reads, "Pennypacker/Hall (w/wndw)/# 227/Hourglass" Condition: perhaps two supports are replaced - but old replacements, the join holding the two glass containers together is crumbling and very unstable. According to the owner, this hourglass was used in Fayette Masonic Lodge, Charlton, MA.
