Label Text: Kageyama’s third son and fourth child, Yoshihiko, was born in 1946 at the height of the deprivations of the immediate postwar period. The whole family suffered from a lack of food during these years. In 1950, at the age of four, Yoshihiko was sent to live with Kageyama’s brother, but less than a year later he fell gravely ill and died as a result of the lingering effects of malnutrition. Kageyama photographed his mother attending the deceased child in the main room of their house in Fujisawa.
