Description:
Shoemaker's or cordwainer's bench. The bench is made with a long wooden plank with four low, carved legs (one repaired) attached at the narrow ends. Two drawers with iron pulls hang below. A cabinet on top at one side has an additional drawer and two undercompartments. Strips of wood nailed to the top provide compartments for items such as pegs or nails. A leather insert at the opposite end as the cabinet provided seating. Traces of red paint survive. A similar example (minus the upper drawer) is depicted in an 1813 child's book, printed in Boston, titled "Little Jack of All Trades."
