Description:
Thrown, stoneware, flattened circular disk-shaped inkwell with flat base and flat top, and straight sides, there are two holes (one large in the center and one smaller on the side) in the top of the well. The base of the inkwell shows characteristic concentric marks of using a wire to take the piece off the wheel while still rotating on the potter’s wheel. Inscribed in ink “Col. 1902/ Ithaca, NY.” And in red paint, “70.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original note card for object reads, "Inkwell/ Col. 1902 Ithaca, N.Y. Stoneware: salt glaze. 1 quill hole."
