Description:
Thrown red earthenware cup, with round flat bottom, canted sides, large round mouth, applied, ribbed strap handled on side, cup has slight double horizontal rib pattern along the center of the cup, covered all over in manganese black lead glaze, pasted red and white paper label on base reads: “Col. In Jersey/ by Osborn/of Phila’ on 1914” and in red paint “193” in a circle. Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Gates notecard for the object reads, "Shallow handled mug. Red clay, Black glaze, incised rings 3 1/4" x 4 1/2" base/ 5 1/2" top./ Col. by Osborn in New Jersey, (bot. Phil. Dec. 1914)"
