Description:
Thrown red earthenware container with flat base, swelled sides, and tapered, narrow neck, bottle’s spout is circular, and is flattened side on the side. Underside of the base of the bottle shows concentric marks of taking the piece off the potter’s wheel with a wire as it was still rotating on the wheel. Painted in red enamel on base “14.” Formerly part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Original notecard in the Gates Collection reads, "Vase./ Col. [blank] Red clay: unglazed inside or outside. Traces of symetrical/ handles having been applied. 6 1/2 in./ Sterling?"
