Description:
These small vessels often called swiglers were used to carry rum and other hard liquor. They were not production items and do not appear in potter's price lists. Thrown barrel in two pieces and joined together; top and bottom of the barrel are flat, center section has slightly swelled slides, middle of barrel has square shaped protrusion which contains a hole to the hollow interior (bung hole), the barrel form is incised with lines horizontally to simulate iron barrel bands, the whole is covered in an orange colored glaze.
