Description:
Two scroddled or agate earthenware clay door knobs made in two halves and joined, knobs is attached to an iron flange with metal screw and an iron shaft, the other door knob is missing its screw. The clay is composed of dark brown, light cream, yellow ochre, and brown colored clays mixed together to give the effect of a mixture of clays, similar to agate stone. Could be part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Notecard for Gates collection #181 reads, "Fragments Col. By BNG. June 1914, on site of "Machine Shop" (Enos Adams)/ in yard and cellar of Blacksmith Shop. ever known as N. E. Pottery Co./ 2 whole door knobs in col. ...."
