Description:
Mugs were produced in great quantity by every pottery, yet today few survive, probably due to rough handling in taverns and public houses. Cylindrical, straight-sided mug with slightly curved base, side of mug is slightly scored in middle, attached strap handle, covered with a slightly lustrous, manganese black lead glaze, painted in red paint on underside of mug, "192" and the paper label, "Col. Osborn/Phila./ 1914/ (Schuylkill Val)" Condition: small chips to the rim, overall crackle to the glaze. This object was originally in the collection of Burton N. Gates.
