Description: Circular drape molded, shallow dish with coggled rim, decorated on the interior with white slip using a slip cup (with three quills), pattern at top is a triple twisted line of slip, in center are three wavy lines of slip, and at the bottom is a triple twisted line of slip; the reverse is not glazed; inscribed in black ink, "Coll./1910/Wash. D.C." and the number "59." in red. This object was originally in the collection of Burton N. Gates. Notecard from the Gates papers reads: "Pie plate./ Col. Wash. D.C., 1910. 10 in. Cream slip decoration: red clay." Condition: some abrasion to the glaze, minor loss to slip, and small crack on interior surface, but in excellent condition.
