Description:
Etching of "Albanian" man [Beraldi, no. 343] dressed in exotic costume, head covered with headscarf. Man is perched upon a long sofa, playing a stringed instrument and singing. A bird, on the lower righthand side of the composition, looks up at the man with an open beak. A long scythe hangs from a string pinned to the wall behind the man. Singing, music, instruments, lute, Orientalism, couch, divan, exoticism, weapons, animals, birds, warblers, interior scenes. Signed "L. Gerome" in plate, undated.
