Description: Thrown, lead-glazed red earthenware jug with rounded spout, attached double ribbed strap handle ending in a v-shaped point; ovoid shaped body with tapering base; there is an incised line at the spout, and three incised lines on the shoulder of the jug; has a reddish orange glaze; base is flat and unglazed, painted number "150" in red on the base of the jug, Condition: all over flaking of glaze on the surface of the jug probably from soluable salts issue, appears to to be pock marked. Originally part of the Burton N. Gates Collection. Notecard in the Gates papers reads: "Jug/ Red clay: red glaze. 9 in high./ 3 incised rings on neck: one on nose./ Col. by Olsen, Sutton. [crossed out]"
