Description:
“STARK MILLS/ SEAMLESS/ A” stamped on front; “162” painted by hand on the back. Grain bag made of cotton canvas (woven in a basket weave), with groupings of light brown vertical stripes. Top-opening; seamed at the bottom, Stark Mills specialized in seamless bag (machine) weaving; a continuous tube was woven and desired lengths were cut and seamed at the bottom. Stark Mills was making these bags at least in 1853 and 1854.
