Description:
Thrown vase coated with layer of blue glaze on the exterior and brown glaze on the interior; incised mark on the reverse, "OLD/ DEERFIELD/ MASS". The rim of this object is broken and the piece is covered in some paint. This collection of objects was owned by Stephen Maniatty, a painter who lived in Deerfield, MA. It may have been used in the artist's studio to contain paint brushes. This object was made by Edward "Ted" Norman (1911-2005), who worked as an arts and crafts potter at the Bloody Brook Tavern in Deerfield, Massachusetts, in the 1930s - 1950's.
