In the center, an emaciated man stands facing proper left, leaning against some solid object (a wall?), and holds an empty dish (hat?) in his outstretched left hand. At his feet, a woman sits looking proper left and holds a child on her lap. In the foreground, bodies lie scattered on the ground; three adults lying parallel to the picture plane and an infant lying perpendicular to it.
