Description:
Copper plate engraving of the cylinders and furnace of a steam boat engine; the steam boat Babcock was lighter in weight and used less wood than previously existing steam engines; also a condenser conserved the amount of fresh water used in the steam engine; various captions on the print image say "Section of the Tube connected with/ the Forcing Pump." "Section through the line A B of the Side View," "Tube leading to the condenser" and "Side View of the Engine." This engraving is taken from The American Journal of Science and the Arts, by Benjamin Silliman, Vol. XII, June 1827, this is an illustration to an article by Joseph H. Patten, "Notice of the Steam-Boat Babcock." Newport, R.I. Nov. 25, 1826."
