Label Text: Fair-way, New Orleans, Louisiana emphasizes repetition to create a sense of disorientation. Signs for the restaurant and certain brand names, such as Coca-Cola, are repeated along the two adjacent sides of the building in this photograph. Our impression of this pseudo-symmetrical view, enhanced by the curved balcony, is that the scene is bowed, like the reflection in a distorting mirror at the junction of paths in a funhouse. A single shirtless boy in jeans and sneakers runs around the corner, shattering, or defying, the disorienting effect of this scene, while enhancing its carnivalesque mood with his childlike exuberance.
