Description:
Twenty views of the Hudson River painted by Irish watercolorist William Guy Wall were published as aquatints by Henry Megary in New York in the early 1820s. John Hill was the principal engraver. These colorful views were some of the earliest images of the Hudson River to be presented as art and were widely popular. The Hudson River runs 315 miles from the Adirondack Mountains to New York City. The views start near Lake Luzerne and end with a view of New York City from Governor's Island. The originally proposal was for twenty-four prints; however, only twenty were ever published between 1821 to 1825. Framed print is view of the town of Newburgh on the Hudson River, there is a town in the distance and in the foreground is a driver with an ox cart full of stones, the print is titled, "NEWBURG./No. 14 of the Hudson River Valley Port Folio." and "Painted by W. G. Wall" and "Engraved by I. Hill." The reverse of the frame has information pasted about this print from the Port folio. Possibly a later reproduction
