Martin Van Buren (December 5, 1782-July 24, 1862) was a United States Senator, trusted advisor to United States President Andrew Jackson, elected as Vice President on the Jackson ticket, and went on to become the eighth President of the United States (1837-1841). He was also the first President born a United States citizen.
